I keep kicking myself because I said if I wasn't going to write here often I should at least post a photo every day since, you know, I'm taking one every day!
Just want to explain my view a little on President Obama appearing on The Tonight Show since I've been expressing it on Twitter and now Cecily linked here saying I was horrified. I guess I am, but more so at everything I think it means than the actual thing itself.
I found it really upsetting. I love Obama and am thrilled he's President, but it really aggravates me that our politicians have to continue campaigning after they've been elected. He's not a "celebrity." He's the PRESIDENT.
I think it is tacky for him to be on a late night talk show. The lines have blurred more and more as time goes on and it does bother me. The President of the United States should not have to appear on a comedy talk show in order to "reach the people". He's already reached us...he's our President.
The constant campaigning when already elected, and really the fact that he did this, points more to how fucked up politics have become in this country than to anything particular about President Obama. Media dictates politics more than the other way around these days...and it is what Americans seem to want.
We had a President that seemed “accessible,” remember? Americans said he was a guy they “wanted to have a beer with.” Look where that got us! ;-)
I want a President who is smarter than me and yes, too fucking good for me too. I think Obama has done more than enough to make himself “accessible”—his weekly webcasts are a perfect example. I have no problem with those. It just seems like going on a comedy talk show takes away from the dignity that should go with the Office of the President, an we already had so little left!
